Bar Manager Lewis wins Global Opihr Gin Competition!

Crowned the ‘Spirit of OPIHR 2019’: Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol’s own Lewis McKenzie proudly brought home the global award!

Bar Manager of Axis Lobby & Cocktail Bar, Lewis McKenzie, was crowned the winner of the sixth annual OPHIR Global Cocktail Competition, held in Venice, Italy.

The challenge was to create a unique OPIHR Gin Cocktail that represented the journey to the finals in Venice. Lewis: “My creation, ‘A bridge too far’, is inspired by the spirit of adventure and those who are bold and brave enough to explore the world in the search of new experiences and cultures – just like we all had with our journey to the finals in Venice. Taking inspiration from all that I used fresh grapefruit and local lavender honey. I combined this with chamomile and Szechuan pepper to echo the flavor of OPIHR, which works perfectly when mixed with this spiced gin, and finished it off with some orange bitters. For me, this creation represents Marco Polo, a famous Venetian traveler who headed East. And also the travelers we welcome at Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol every day!”
