What were the highlights in 2017?
Working at Schiphol offers so many added bonuses. For example, over 50 events organised by and for community members are held each year. Participation is always free if you are a member of Spot Schiphol. Now that the last month of the year is here and 2018 is just around the corner, we wanted to look back on several notable events that took place this year.

Food trucks at Schiphol CBD and Schiphol-East
After a long wait, they were back: the food trucks! Previously, you could only find them at the Schiphol Central Business District (CBD), but this year workers at Schiphol-East were likewise able to enjoy delicious dishes served up by more than 20 different food trucks. From April through September, you could find a food truck parked next to The Base and building 144 every Tuesday and Thursday. Everyone is already counting the days until April 2018 rolls around!

Free workshops from The School of Life
'How do I think like an entrepreneur?' 'How do I become more creative?' 'How do I find a job that suits me?' Participants in The School of Life learned the answers to these questions during the past year. In 2017, Spot community members were once again eligible to attend free workshops from The School of Life, whose mission is to present ideas in a fresh and modern way to a curious audience.

Spot Summer Sessions & The Square opening
'The Square' was designed as a public space offering residents and visitors a place to relax, meet and inspire. All of these elements came to the fore during the opening of the square, which took place over the course of six weeks. During these six weeks, activities including free workshops, photo shoots and competitions were held on the new square as part of the 'Spot Summer Sessions'. However, the square really officially opened on the last sunny day of the year, when 200 community members enjoyed an honest-to-goodness food truck event.

Free Lunch Friday
Small-scale events can be successful, too, as one group of Schiphol workers demonstrated during Free Lunch Friday. During the various editions of Free Lunch Friday, a group of 8 to 12 workers representing different enterprises, backgrounds and skills met up for a day of co-working at The Base. Stepping away from their daily office environment and having a coffee or lunch with new colleagues enabled them to gain new stories, knowledge and skills.

TEDxAmsterdam Side Event
The fourth TEDxAmsterdam Side Event took place at Schiphol on Friday 17 November. Six inspiring speakers took the stage and inspired those in attendance on topics including robotics, blockchain, lab-grown meat and much more. With 250 guests, the event was not only really fun, but also offered everyone who attended the perfect opportunity to network in an informal setting and get acquainted with fellow Schiphol workers.

Christmas breakfast
A very special event was held at Schiphol CBD and Schiphol-East on 14 December. More than 400 guests enjoyed a Christmas breakfast all at once. Over at The Base, this translated into a beautifully decorated table that stretched a good 120 metres. For the guests at Schiphol-East, it was a delightful way to experience the brand-new 'Living Room East', an inviting meeting space next to the newly opened AH to go in Tristar 3.

Spot Schiphol community growth
More and more Schiphol workers found their way to Spot Schiphol in 2017. The community welcomed more than 1,100 new community members during the last year. Currently, the community boasts over 2,200 members, who together represent more than 400 companies in the area. Do you work at Schiphol and would you like to attend a community event in the new year?
